This is a complex and interesting book that operates on multiple levels. Twenty-one psychoanalysts, both colleagues and trainees of Dr. Lichtenberg, have written essays on theory and clinical practice related to his influence on their understanding and work. Each essay shares a unique perspective which when taken together shape a much larger analog of the whole psychoanalytic endeavor from training and theory to research and clinical practice. Although not universally known within the psychoanalytic world, Joseph Lichtenberg's work is nevertheless widely regarded and has been deeply influential. Perhaps of greater interest is that his work of over five decades has been prescient of where the entire field has progressed and currently arrived, while the work of more well-known contemporaries has fallen out of favor.
