Dear Colleagues:
We, the editors of Psychodynamic Psychiatry, are looking for clinical case discussions for publication. Case reports communicate what psychodynamic psychiatrists do in the clinical situation. They provide examples of the wide variety of clinical presentations that may fall under a single DSM-V diagnostic category. They demonstrate therapeutic interventions as well as sometimes the difficulties that may arise in treatment.
Because of the predominantly biological focus of modern psychiatry, few psychiatric clinicians are familiar with psychodynamic ways of assessing and treating patients. Published case reports will help us to disseminate the knowledge it is our privilege to have. Such knowledge is increasingly needed by psychiatrists, not only in the U.S., but also abroad. Psychodynamic Psychiatry has readers throughout the world.
We make two requests of authors considering submission of case material to Psychodynamic Psychiatry: First, confidentially must be protected. Not only should material be disguised but patients should provide written informed consent. Second, authors must be comfortable with the peer-review and editorial processes of the Journal.
The Journal prefers descriptive material less commonly found in psychoanalytic clinical discussions than in psychiatry reports. Psychoanalytic or psychotherapy process discussions are also important. Both types of data should be part of a case report. Details about what goes into a case report may be found in the Contributions Section of the Journal's web page: .
