We are particularly fortunate in having the contributions of Michael Balint, Gustav Bychowski, Edward Hoedemaker, Gerald H. J. Pearson, Bertram Lewin and D. W. Winnicott. Although their deaths preceded publication of this volume, it is symbolic of their lives that their scientific contributions continue and that their work lives on.

Another “contributor” to The Forum should be noted here: my wife, Ruth Lindon, who gave so much to me. This book, delayed because of her long, terrible fight with cancer and her recent death, is dedicated to her. She is sorely missed by all who knew her.
