This paper explores the experiences of incorporating a short meditation into two new psychotherapy groups and discusses the author's observations about the impact of this meditation on development of group cohesion. The paper examines how meditation aided members and what was learned from incorporating meditation into the group process. The decision to include this meditation reflects the current paradigm shift within psychoanalysis to an emphasis on the relational and the intersubjective. Also included are clinical examples that highlight the group process. Each example starts with a description of the meditation that was used to begin the session.
