These articles provide examples of current trends in group treatment and examples of the application of principles from dyadic therapy to group treatment.
Not only do the authors provide an overview of group psychotherapy in its many manifestations, they also address the impact of recent advances in theory building on their work.
Working with diverse populations, the authors creatively weave dyadic and group theory into models that advance the credibility of group as a useful psychoanalytic treatment.
It is my hope, as issue editor, that group therapy will be more generally seen as a mode of treatment that advances the growth of the individual. Used with individual work, group therapy is a powerful tool for promoting personal growth and healing.
The future is bright for group therapy because therapists such as those contributing to this issue of Psychoanalytic Inquiry know the field and understand the implications of modern and postmodern perspectives as experienced beyond the bounds of individual treatment. I thank them all for their hard work and ongoing interest in “the group.”
