This article explores time utilizing analytic process between a young man who is dramatically symptomatic and his analyst. In the course of the play, the minds of each of his parents are revealed to be present reflecting earlier, concomitant, and unsolvable dilemmas that they contain. Significantly, they actually enter the analytic Spielraum by invitation. As the work proceeds, the mechanisms by which these interdigitations occur are explored as yet another dimension of different times and overlapping meanings. All of this is further illumined by the presence for both the analysand and the analyst of Thomas Mann’s opus magnum, The Magic Mountain, which is, above all, a treatise on time and meaning.
