The author analyzes Searles’ case presentation through both the lens of a social worker as well as through her experience as a patient at Chestnut Lodge, the same institution in which the case presentation was based. Katz focuses on the unusual relationship between Searles and his patient, and how the pervious boundaries between the two both captured the culture of Chestnut Lodge and acted as a vehicle for a successful outcome for the patient.
