Psychoanalysis can complement traditional Chinese culture. Although psychoanalytic theory and clinical technique have been developing smoothly in China for only about 20 years, it has been quickly accepted by many mental health practitioners. In this article, I try to use my own experience of growing from a village girl to a psychoanalyst, the founder of Xinxun Institute for Psychology, a wife who found her own Mr. Right, and a mother with three daughters as an example to explain why psychoanalysis is helpful to Chinese people. By talking about The Journey To The West - a classical Chinese mythical story and as a metaphor of my own seeking the way out of the village to a bigger world, sharing my dream material, and using my own paintings as illustrations to show you how psychoanalysis meets the needs of contemporary Chinese people in pursuit of psychological growth, personality change, and dealing with the haunt of trans-generational trauma.
