With the facilitation of Paula Kliger, the Holmes Commission leadership team engages in a conversation about their journey into exploring race, systemic racism, and othering as they have been perpetuated and enacted within American Psychoanalysis. They describe the development of the Commission, the challenges of intergenerational and transgenerational history and the Commission’s group dynamics, emergent within the Commission members as well as displayed within the overall psychoanalytic community. The conversation opened the doorway to sharing an understanding of the evolution of a deep relational bond so clearly essential for carrying out the mission of the initiative, and how the creation of this bond served as a refuge, a community, for sustaining emotional readiness, strength, and resilience to realize completion of the Holmes Commission’s Final Report.
