The authors, a Chinese counsellor (ES) and an American psychoanalyst (JSS), describe their experience in a clinical consultation group. A group member who was to present a sixteen-session psychotherapy treatment with a woman patient asked the group to contemplate three questions pertaining to early transference of distrust, transgenerational identifications, and inhibited sexual desire. The co-authors recount the presenter's narrative, summarise the group discussion of the clinical material, and show the consultant's role as commentator and facilitator of group learning from the experience.
