In the practice of psychodynamic psychotherapy/psychoanalysis in China, the “teacher” title that patients give to the therapist/analyst is a collective unconscious reflection based on Confucian culture. The “teacher transference” in the psychoanalysis/psychotherapy unconsciously presents a cultural psychological structure similar to the Confucian teacher–student relationship. A thorough understanding and proper handling of the unconscious connotation behind teacher transference will help the smooth progress of analysis/therapy.
