Letters to the Editors: Reflections on the Inaugural Issue

Dear Editors,

Just a brief note to express my admiration for the breathtakingly high quality of your inaugural issue. No dances, no nonsense—none of the “decoration” typically added to a first issue to mask the inevitable anxiety of new parents. My customary feeling on reading the initial offering of a new journal was totally absent—a feeling captured by a remark once made to me by a patient in response to what I had thought was a sparkling formulation that happily tied things together: “Don't be in such a hurry to add icing,” she said pointedly. “We've only just begun to bake the cake.”

Psychoanalytic Perspectives, even in its infancy, already manifests a unique and engagingly authentic personality that I expect will delight and enlighten its readers for years to come. The content selection, though far ranging and diverse, is not arbitrary or capricious but reflective of an innovative vision and deep sense of purpose that embraces psychoanalytic thinking, social consciousness, and creative expression.
