I have known Dr. Lewis Aron for a number of years and have had the privilege of experiencing his knowledge, skills, and generosity as my supervisor, consultant, and study-group leader. I was therefore delighted to have the opportunity to interview him for this issue of Psychoanalytic Perspectives.
Lew has been one of a small yet powerful group of analysts (including his close friend and colleague the late Stephen Mitchell) in the forefront of the development and growth of relational psychoanalysis. He is now one of the primary forces bringing relational theory to psychoanalytic communities throughout the world.
In addition to writing numerous papers and editing books, Lew is committed to expanding his conceptualization of psychoanalysis and is invested in improving psychoanalytic education. He is very mindful of politics and is dedicated to enhancing the reputation and status of our profession in international psychoanalytic circles, in academia, and in the public sphere.
Lew is the Director of the New York University Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. He holds a Diplomate in Psychoanalysis from the American Board of Professional Psychology and is a Fellow of the Academy of Psychoanalysis. He is currently the President of the Division of Psychologist-Psychoanalysts of the New York State Psychological Association (N.Y.S.P.A.). Lew is also a past President of the International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy,
