The editors of Psychoanalytic Perspectives are delighted to present the following article by Dr. Ionas Sapountzis. In the pages that follow, we hope that you will find him, as we have, to be an inspired clinician and a gifted writer.
The paper describes a young and developing clinician's struggle to find a way to reach and help a troubled young man who, in many ways, is so very different from himself. Through the use of poetry, therapist and patient find, recognize and learn to value each other.
In the next issue we are planning to publish a commentary by Neil Altman, Ph.D. and a thought-provoking discussion by Sarah Hill, L.C.S.W., based on Sapountzis' paper. In addition we invite you, our readers, to risk entering the sensitive and complex dilemma that this therapeutic pair encounters and to share your thoughts with our readership. We ask that you communicate your thoughts either in an informal Letter To The Editor or in a relatively brief more formal Discussion of the issues that are salient to you. We will make every effort to publish as many of your responses as space allows.
