The author explores the influence of the analyst's subjectivity as a lens to understanding the implicit ways in which our inner worlds affect our analytic decisions. She further asserts that it is the coalescence of the analysts and patient's subjective experiences that underlies the direction the analysis take's and informs what is mutative for the patient. Drawing on her own sense of familial loss and abandonment, both real and imagined, she decides to break the frame and holds a session in the patient's home. This event dynamically moves the analysis forward in ways that highlight the use of the analyst's personal sensibility and vulnerabilities that form a necessary resonance with those of the patient.
