When we got home, Mom was already in bed. She said she didn't feel well, and asked that we not bother her. Dad went into his study, and I opened the door to the bedroom and watched her sleeping. I got close and whispered in her ear, “Mom, can I sleep next to you?” She didn't answer, and I got in on Dad's side of the bed, covered myself with the blanket, and watched her. “Mom, we saw fireworks,” I whispered, and she opened an eye and smiled at me. “Good, I'm glad you had a good time,” and immediately shut her eyes again, before I had the chance to tell her that I actually did not have such a good time and that I don't like fireworks at all.
