Inspired by Jamaica Kincaid’s “Girl”
Tuesday is ironing day. It is ironing day on Tuesday because it follows Monday, which is washing day.
Thursday is food shopping day since the car is home on Thursday because that is his day off from work and he takes a long nap in the afternoon and even though all days are now his napping days, Thursday remains the shopping day because Wednesday is the day to work at the church with the ladies doing good for the neighborhood women way down on their luck.
Friday is housecleaning day. Vacuuming and dusting. During the in-between time on Friday there is baking to be done so that on Sunday which is omelet morning the table looks special and different from all the other cereal days of the week.
This is how you keep a household ordered.
This is how the fruit is already peeled and waiting for him to come down for breakfast.
This is how you look into his eyes showing him nothing else but the reflection of his own desires.
This is how you keep order in the house.
This is how you can stretch a can of tuna into five sandwiches.
This is how a single tube of lipstick called Pink Passion can last an entire lifetime.
