This commentary on Stavros Charalambides’ “‘The Group Turn’ in Psychoanalysis: A Proposal for Including Group Work in Psychoanalytic Training” highlights the need to transform the way psychoanalytic institutes operate and provide training. It considers that Eitingon’s model, which predominates in most institutes, can easily become a patriarchal and endogamous model with traumatic potential for members of an institute. It analyzes the relational dynamics and argues that systemic analysis of the institutes and group work are methodologies that can contribute positively to the transformation of relational dynamics.
