This is a work of fiction inspired by the events of January 8-9, 2026 in Iran, during which thousands were killed amid the violent suppression of street protests. It breaks my heart that so many of us in the Middle East, end up making our dreams and our poetry out of pain.
They have nothing to do with me …I’m at home, behind closed windows, at my own desk, working.
The table was piled up with food, and I’ve hoarded as much cash as I can, so if something happens, I could live for a while without leaving the house. Ever since that taxi driver told me, “Sir, if all hell breaks loose, no one will spare anyone,”
I’ve been stashing cash. So, there is nothing to worry about.
In the end, they shout. The police crackdown. And then, like before, it all ends.It gets forgotten.
Of course, it hurts. Of course, I want to be free. I know some parts of these protests are about freedom.
