With this issue, Psychoanalytic Psychology introduces a new section entitled Commentary. This section is reserved for reader response to articles published in the Journal. The Editorial Board believes that this section might enhance communication among colleagues differing in their views regarding theory and clinical phenomena in psychoanalysis and that it might facilitate increased appreciation of diverse approaches. Manuscripts are invited which address theoretical or clinical issues posed by previously published articles. Ordinarily, such responses are expected to be 10 pages or less, typed, and double-spaced in APA format. Although the Editor may consult with members of the Editorial Board, every effort will be made to expedite acceptance and publication of commentary. On occasion, the Editor will also solicit commentary from among reviewers of accepted manuscripts and colleagues working in the area addressed by an article.

The Editorial Board is considering a proposal for an occasional section of the Journal devoted to reports of psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Although the primary mission of Psychoanalytic Psychology concerns theoretical and clinical perspectives in psychoanalysis, we recognize that there is limited opportunity for publication of articles reporting on the application of psychoanalytic concepts to individual, family, and group psychotherapy, as well as to the supervision of psychotherapy, and that the Journal might facilitate such communication. Review of these articles is particularly difficult: Innovations in technique or observations on clinical process which the author finds helpful are difficult for reviewers to evaluate. The Editorial Board and Publications Committee of Division 39 invites reader response to this proposal, including suggestions for criteria to be used in reviewing these articles. The address for the Editorial Office is shown on the inside Journal cover.
