Many have stated that the lack of quantitative data supporting psychoanalytic theory derived from controlled and replicable designs makes psychoanalysis vulnerable to intense criticism. This criticism comes from both within and without the psychoanalytic community.
Although the number of professional organizations within our psychoanalytic specialty has grown exponentially, until recently, there was no single organization specifically devoted to the promotion of quantitative research on matters significant to psychoanalytic theory and practice.
The Society for the Advancement of Quantitative Research in Psychoanalysis (SAQRP) was recently formed to fill this vacuum.
The Society is currently developing a membership directory. A 1-day conference and a research newsletter are planned for next year.
If interested, please mail your name, address, and telephone number to the Society' President, Dennis G. Shulman, PhD, SAQRP, Fordham University, The College at Lincoln Center, 113 West 60th Street, Room 916, New York, NY 10023. You may also include a statement summarizing any quantitative psychoanalytic research you have completed or any specific topic in which you have an interest.
