Psychoanalysis has been energetically criticized for its perceived failure to test empirically the critical hypotheses relating to its theory and therapy. Although the relationship between psychoanalysis and empirical research has been an uneasy one, more investigations of central aspects of the theory have been completed than is generally recognized. One of the major challenges experienced by the psychoanalyst/researcher involves the fact that psychoanalytically oriented research is either unpublished (doctoral dissertations or conference presentations) or scattered across a wide variety of journals, most often nonpsychoanalytic publications. In order to aid interested researchers and faculty teaching research seminars, and to stimulate discussion relating to psychoanalytic research methodology within the broader psychological community, a bibliography that includes more than 200 recent listings is offered.
