Multiple personality disorder and other disturbances involving dissociation offer a rich opportunity for extending our understanding of specific psychic phenomenon. Additional clinical material is presented from the treatment of a patient who presented herself as a multiple personality disorder. The patient's attitude of entitlement proved a formidable resistance that ultimately resulted in her prematurely terminating treatment. Using her sense of entitlement as a springboard, the case is discussed in terms of the dynamics of parental externalization, masochism, and omnipotence. More so than other patients, individuals who present with dissociative symptoms prompt us to reexamine our position regarding responsibility and personal accountability.
