In working with patients who have homosexual orientations, one must be aware of the historical prejudice and discrimination against these individuals. Recent events indicate that they are now at risk of virulent hate crimes. The analyst cannot be neutral about these societal developments. Psychoanalysis, itself, has a history of being ridiculed and attacked, as well as taking courageous stands against human rights violations and atrocities.
