What is the role of gender in transference? This article outlines some aspects of gender and gender construction that may potentially affect analytic space. Relational and classical notions of intersubjective, intrapsychic, and the analytic third are explored for ways in which they both converge and diverge and shed light on the reciprocal interplay between gender and transference. A clinical vignette illustrates theoretical considerations, highlighting the jointly created elements of gender-linked transferential configurations within a female-female dyad.
