Psychoanalytic Psychology begins an exciting new year in 2011. We have a new, appealing cover design. In this issue, we are publishing the winner of the 2009 Stephen Mitchell award, Mia Medina's “Physical and Psychic Imprisonment and the Curative Function of Self-Cutting.” For the first time, we are publishing a photograph and short bio of the winner, a tradition that we are instituting as a way to showcase the work of promising graduate students in the field.
The January 2011 issue is divided into sections, beginning with two articles based on presentations from the Division 39 Spring meeting in Chicago: the keynote address by Frank Summers and an article by Kaveh Zamanian.
The second section contains three research articles: Tolmacz, Rappaport, and Mikulincer; Lukowitsky and Pincus; and Werbart et al.
The third section has two articles: one on child/adolescent assessment (Meersand) and one on understanding and treating adolescents (Bonovitz).
The fourth section contains three book reviews by Holmes (on Donnel Stern), Suth (on R. Coleman Curtis), and Obegi (on Miriam and Howard Steele).
The issue concludes with our annual list of dissertations in the field of psychoanalysis, loosely construed, from 2009. We have tried to be as comprehensive as possible, but please be kind enough to inform us if we have missed anyone. I would like to thank our manuscript coordinator, Katie Eiges, and a fellow graduate student, Anjali George, for their work in compiling the list. It is, indeed, heartening and inspiring to see how much work is currently being produced in the field!
