The author presents some aspects of the psychoanalytic treatment of a young man diagnosed with schizophrenia, showing marked agoraphobic symptoms, fear of falling into a boundless void, and persecutory fantasies of killing his mother. After a complete remission of the symptoms, the final phase of the analysis was characterized by an explosion of paranoia and a dramatic homicidal transference. The mental integration of the body and the working through of death anxieties proved decisive in overcoming the patient's critical body-mind dissociation, which had paralyzed his mental functioning and analytic evolution.
