This well-known textbook of group psychotherapy now appears in its third edition. Dr Yalom explains in his preface how he has extensively revised it to take account of nine years of literature and personal experience, to alter emphases and language which seemed outmoded, and to include new material. This includes such topics as the preparation of the patient for group therapy, and discussion of borderline and narcissistic patients in groups. He has added a chapter in specialised group therapy, which outlines modification of technique which may be appropriate for specific clinical situations, and has moved discussion of research method to the notes (which now run to thirty-eight pages, mostly of references).
