From Dr Isobel H Hunter-Brown
Dear Editor
In your ‘APP Conference Summary’ report (Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, 4 pp. 77-91), in the section about Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the British Health Service, it is stated that ‘There are only about sixty consultant psychotherapy posts, all concentrated in London’ (page 79, top). May I comment that there have been NHS Consultant Psychotherapy posts in Nottingham, in Derby and in Leicester for a considerable number of years. I suggest you might also check whether or not there are NHS Consultant Psychotherapy posts elsewhere too —? Manchester, Leeds, Scotland (Edinburgh and Glasgow) and ?? Newcastle, Birmingham, for example.
I think a recent psychotherapy post (but possibly non-consultant) in Nottingham was advertised to psychoanalysts in the Newsletter
The statement referred to must, of course, have a regrettable impact on the individuals who hold the posts, whom, presumably, the APP wishes to influence, and I trust you will appreciate my pointing out the problem.
Yours sincerely
