Many psychoanalytical psychotherapists who are not also group therapists will be very familiar with Foulkes's name and know of his importance in establishing Group Analysis. They may, however, be less familiar with his personal and professional history and his written work, psychoanalytic as well as group-analytic. A ‘Brief Memoir’ by Elizabeth Foulkes gives some background biographical material. The second chapter consists of Foulkes's account of his only visit to Freud, and contains evocative detail of the meeting and of Freud.
