From Dr Cleo Van Velsen
My one particular comment is a wish to correct any misunderstanding in the paragraph referring to the British Psycho-Analytical Society and a seminar group. I used the phrase ‘in the tradition of …’ as a way of describing British psychoanalytic thinking, which Dr Mollon discusses in his book. I felt free to refer to the Society as it is the only one affiliated to the International Psychoanalytical Association and therefore represents official psychoanalysis in the UK.
When describing ‘a’ seminar group I meant this in a general sense and for it to link to the passage quoted on the same page where Dr Mollon refers to being in a seminar. I had no one particular seminar group in mind and regret any misunderstanding.
Otherwise I can only express my regret that a serious, academic review of an important and contentious subject has been reacted, and responded, to so personally.
Yours sincerely
