The cover of this book could be off-putting, as it looks and sounds like an over-the-top kind of self-help manual that might offer quick fix solutions to mental and emotional distress. Fortunately, what also catches the eye is the presence of several psychoanalytic writers who are well known and respected in this country, such as Glen Gabbard, Otto Kernberg, and Thomas Ogden. On the cover there are photographs of people in various poses that suggest feelings of one sort or another, e.g. grief, anxiety. These photographs are laid out as if part of a celluloid film. Also on the cover, along with key authors are catchy headings such as On Beginning Therapy, Sexual Problems, Grief, Narcissism, Self Injury.
