Dr. Kanner has given us a splendid account of the folklore of the teeth, divided into groups of chapters that deal with the folklore of their number, shape, and eruption, with questions of popular dental hygiene, toothache and its cure, the artificial deformation of the teeth, and the teeth as used outside of the oral cavity. The author evidently found the subject a rich one, and he does not presume to have exhausted it, but he has brought together a mass of informative material from wide sources. If one were to be at all critical it might be said that the book is almost entirely descriptive rather than interpretative, although if one will read Dr. Kanner's article, The Teeth as a Folkloristic Symbol, in The Psycho-Analytic Review for January, 1928, one will get the psychoanalytic key to the interpretation of much that is found in this larger work. There is a very full and excellent bibliography attached.
