The chapters of this little book are separate essays on different aspects of language by a teacher of languages. They are interesting but are not profound philological discussions by any means. There is a very interesting argument against artificial languages with which the reviewer finds himself very much in sympathy, never having believed that an artificial
language could be otherwise than a monstrosity. The authoress, a Russian by the way, believes that English is rapidly becoming a pretty universally used language, and that if the world should ever become bi-lingual English would be one of the languages spoken.
