Dr. Kirby's guide for history taking and clinical examination of mental patients is a very thorough presentation of the subject, of particular value for the State hospital physician and for one who is preparing an examination, the results of which he expects to present in court. It has all the thoroughness which we are accustomed to see in Dr. Kirby's writings. Even so, of course, it cannot include everything that might be examined for. The tendency has been apparently to present material as a result of the examination which would not be controversial. It is a good outline to put in the hands of the State hospital interne—an ideal to shoot at.
