A most unusual book. It is the story of a London surgeon, who comes into his Cavendish Square house and sits down by the fire and goes woolgathering. His phantasies slowly change to dreams and he falls to sleep, and the dreams continue in ever changing form until they suddenly cease with death. All of this is told as if by the dreamer in a style quite unique, with enough added information skillfully introduced here and there to give the setting of the surgeon's life, his relation to other people, and the importance and the significance of his death, while all through the rather mystical story as unfolded there runs the golden thread of a great love.
