Any information on mystical symbolism should be welcome. This book, however, rather leaves one in nearly as hazy a state of mind regarding it after reading as before. It is a book on mysticism, apparently by a mystic. There is some clarification, however, but hardly of the sort to satisfy those who are accustomed to interpretations along psychoanalytic lines. The author, in the preface, aptly speaks of mystical symbolism as the “growing point” of dogma and of all religious manifestations. It might be thought of, therefore, by those who know their botany, as like the tip of the root which forces its way through the soil. Mystical symbolism is the early formulation of the effect which the multiple intricacies of life and the unsolvable questions which it presents have upon man as he endeavors, hopefully but futilely, to gain certainty, equilibrium, peace and security in this world of trials, suffering, tribulations, and frustrations.
