This massive volume is a bound collection of forty-four reprints in Italian of separate studies by twenty-one authors. The subjects are chiefly in neurology, experimental pathology and neuro-endocrine disorders, including both clinical and experimental approaches to the problems. There are excellent neurological studies on the various aspects of syphilogenic disorders, paralysis agitans, encephalitis, and extrapyramidal syndromes; chemical studies on the blood in epilepsy, tetany, colloidal reactions, and general serology; physiological investigations of the liver in athetoid conditions. Glandular disturbances are well represented in comprehensive approaches to the problems of thyroid and parathyroid significance. There is very little psychiatry as such, although one paper deals with neurasthenia and another with traumatic neuroses.
The collection contains three contributions by the eminent director of the clinic, Prof. Rosolino Colella—namely, the inaugural address of the new clinic, the “Neuroglia in 1931,” and a contribution on the etiology of thyroid troubles. An excellent biographical sketch of Prof. Colella is given by Prof. Franco Di Renzo. The nature of the volume and the great diversity of the subjects preclude any comprehensive review, but one is impressed by the large amount of valuable information contained therein, and by the painstaking research of this group of investigators. Those with neurological and endocrinological interests should keep this collection of contributions in mind for reference.
