Penrose, L. S. Schizophrenia of Long Duration.—An interesting description of a paranoid schizophrenic patient of eighty years of age, who had been mentally ill for fifty years, and who still retained some integrity of the personality. The patient, a boiler maker, blind in the right eye and deaf in the right ear, with few other disintegrations of the somatic machinery. The patient is intellectually clear and has supplied a very full and detailed history, here recorded. He got “religion” as a young man—early twenties—then at age of twenty-six “he received the coming of the Lord.” The “system” began about this time and he was taken to a mental hospital as he had a call to go to a mission in Australia—” threatened to consume his mother with fire “if she did not obey him.
