Dr. Campbell has given us another one of his characteristically provocative discussions of an important topic, in this case, the human personality, which he defines as “the expression of the total forces of the individual, it is the product of their integrated activity, it is the man in action as seen by the outsider and known to himself,” or to put it more tersely: it is “the objective behavior and inner experience of the individual organism.” He discusses it from its fundamentals as it takes its characteristics from the physico-chemical environment all the way to the final chapter which deals with the personality and the total situation. The book is replete with interesting examples culled from the lives of noted men and set forth in the literature of the world, and gives a sort of birdseye view of the infinitude and complexities of this most important characteristic of man. It is well worth reading.
