This volume of the annals of the University of Palermo is published under the direction of Professor Rosolino Colella. It is a collection of papers representing the work done in the University of Palermo on the various aspects of nervous and mental diseases since the appearance of Vol. V, in 1933. There are forty-four papers of which fifteen are on the medico-legal aspects of mental disease. The range of subjects included in the thirty-five papers dealing with the various manifestations of mental and nervous diseases is so wide that it is difficult to give a comprehensive review even of the phases covered. One article by Caserta is of anatomical interest, on the cranial bones in brachycephaly and dolicocephaly. Some ten papers recount researches on the blood in various mental diseases (Tomasino, Rabboni, Gurrieri. Lo Cascio, Bongiorno, Caserta). Professor Colello himself has an article on a new treatment of cerebral hemorrhage and of its effects which has been translated into the principal European languages including English. He has also several articles on syphilis of the nervous system. The nine articles in the appendix, on medico-legal subjects, are all by Colella and treat of subjects of interest
