As the result of many years of experience the author teaches how to meet successfully the difficulties in school, the obstinacy and seclusiveness of “problem children.” They are usually the product of some psycho-traumatic episode in the libido-attachment. Modern education is more difficult, he says, on account of social evolution with its machine age that reflects upon the home environment causing dissociation of family life, a condition that should be corrected by science.
An adequate mixture of love and firmness depends upon the emotions of the educator himself. The author recommends change in environment with a discriminate selection of “substitute” parents (Pflege-Eltern) with whom the educational adviser must remain in touch but without knowledge of the supervised child.
