We have reviewed the original French edition of these lectures of Dr. Laforgue, (J. N. & M. D., 88, 135, ) but would emphasize their interest and importance now made more available for the English reader.
There are fourteen lectures beginning with the first approach to the patient, continuing through most of the technical problems that arise in the course of an analysis, as well as inclusive of certain special situations of significance, such as female frigidity, the neurosis of failure, the family neurosis, and the masochistic always-suffering people, so often depicted in certain types of semi-autobiographical literature. Dr. Laforgue's outline of these nun-like martyrs is short but true to type.
The translation is excellent and we can again commend this excellent work to our readers. It makes an excellent companion, No. 31, to the others of the International Psycho-Analytical Library edited by Dr. Ernest Jones.
