“Meet the Sciences” by Dr. Malisoff has been reviewed in these columns, and we welcome this new enterprise which in some 339 indexed octavo pages discusses with rare balance and interest one of man's most vital wishes, that of a long, healthy and happy life.
He ranges in his story from the ephemerids which, like motes in the sunbeam, are here today and gone tomorrow, to the Australian macrozamia trees of 12,000 years of continuous existence. True, our author starts his story with the Methusalah's of existence rather than with those of such short lives as the insects mentioned, but whether one starts at A or at Z is of little moment.
The span between settles upon man's little flash in the pan, but our author fills it with rare skill and true scientific accuracy, even if he sketches man's dreams for endless existence with balanced caution and good sense.
Methusalah's All, the Portrait of Old Age, Fixing the Life Span, The Phenomena of Life, Aging and its Theories, Life and Rejuvenescence, Projects of Optimism, and Possibilities are the major chapter headings
