Psychoanalysis, resting as it does upon a biogenetic foundation, with phyletic preoccupations, early found material of significance in anthropological science. Freud's study on Totemism gave prominence to this aspect of penetration into unconscious motives of behavior, and many useful psychoanalytic homologies have come from anthropological sources, notably in Rôheim's extensive researches.
Thus our mention of this study on Shamanism which, while not apparently aware of these values, nevertheless has interesting material on early religious and cultural formulations, in spite of its purely descriptive and behavioristic mould. This, within its field is excellent, and as such is worth reading by the analyst interested in anthropological antiquities.
