By the death of Dr. Henry Codet the French Psychoanalytic Society has lost one of its original and most outstanding members. Death came on December 19, 1939, as a result of an automobile accident. Dr. Codet was but fifty years of age. He graduated in medicine at the University of Paris, saw service in Bicětre and La Salpétriere and with Ed. Pichon and René Laforgue was among the founders of the French Psychoanalytic Society while still under the aegis of Prof. H. Claude. His earliest contributions on collectivism (Progres Medical stamped him as an original worker) and with his excellent precis de psychiatrie indicated a firm grasp of the psychiatric discipline. His papers on affective retardations, schizonoia, intuitions, magic thinking in every day life, hysteria as a psychical reaction all indicated a broad clinical experience, which with his psychoanalytic comprehension made his contributions of great practical as well as of theoretical value.
