This second edition has a little more spite and prejudice in it than the first, otherwise its stupidity and lack of comprehensiveness remain the same.
As is well known there are the color-blind, the tone-deaf and similar types of agnosias. Dr. Bumke simply remains one of those incapable of understanding certain phenomena in the human being; at least this is all that this diatribe reveals to the reviewer. We recall one of Montaigne's sayings: “He liked talking to peasants. They were not so educated as not to know anything.” Dr. Bumke may be a highly educated man, but he knows nothing of the fundamentals of the human personality as revealed by psychoanalysis.
