Immaturity is the bell-wether of this author's 256 small octavo page treatise. This with some Marx, that “men have sought to grow at the expense of each other”, is the main guiding fiction of his rather loosely constructed volume. He would state that the thesis of psychological
immaturity offers a “radical re-interpretation of history”. To us this general conception is as old as “sin”, and we find nothing new or novel in the exposition.
The author makes a commendable tilt at the windmills but the reviewer constantly is reminded of that medieval figure of Cervantes.
“Man is the only animal that does not know how to live” is one of his wisecracks. It means nothing.
Another thesis suggested as an interpretation of society's ills is that man suffers from the institutions he himself has erected. His ‘ignorance’ mows him down, after he himself has made his social mowing machine.
The book is a chance collection of three to four page essays loosely coordinated under the generalized conception of ‘Immaturity, Paranoia and Paranoidism’. ‘Exploitation’ is the Marxian thread.
It is all too naïve to require extensive comment.
