On rare occasions one finds not only the correct title but the jacket cover describing exactly what the book consists of. This is the rare occasion and this volume on psychiatric nursing may best be recommended
and reviewed by quoting verbatim the jacket cover. The following is quoted.
“This textbook presents a broad viewpoint of the entire field of psychiatry … a well-planned, comprehensive guide to practical data concerning the nurse's approach to the mental patient. It teaches a sympathetic understanding of the problems of mental disease, and gives a well-ordered discussion of nursing care.
“Step-by-step the student gains a full understanding of both the organic and the functional psychoses she will meet. She is introduced to the various modern Special Therapies in the Treatment of Psychiatric Disorders. The importance of treating mental patients as ‘individuals’ rather than as ‘cases,’ is impressed upon her. Throughout the text the aim is to provide a complete concept of special nursing care requisite in various disorders.
“Particularly interesting is the section on Psychiatry in relation to Psychiatric Nursing which gives, not only a much fuller explanation of the etiology of mental disease than is usually found in psychiatric texts, but an excellent discussion of symptomatology, and the general types of abnormal behavior.
“Teaching aids include questions, charts, and case histories.”
