This is a reprinting of a work that originally appeared in 1919. The achievement of Dr. White and the foundation that honors his name need no description at this point. This volume examines the Social Perspective, Psychology of Conflict, The Individual, The Group, Integration-Culture, The Psychological Causes and Effects of War, Tendencies Quickened by War, Love and Hate, and The Socially Handicapped.
The closing paragraph, appropriately enough, may be given once more in this again war-torn world, “In the life of individuals it often happens that a great misfortune is the turning point in their careers and, bravely met, may turn out to have been a great beneficence. Unfortunately misfortune does not always result in this way. Wars in the past have often produced only suffering, but such an end may not be the only possible one. Has the time come when the greatest of all national calamities can be made the greatest of all national opportunities ? Is there a developed, constructive statesmanship equal to turning the tide towards the great constructive possibilities ? The Allied nations are in a position to answer these questions. They stand on the threshold of the greatest of all opportunities.”
